30 years experience in conservation education presentations with live birds of prey

Inspiring, Motivational, Unforgettable

About Us

About Us

Jo Santiago, wildlife biologist and creator of Flying Higher, is dedicated to the conservation of birds of prey and their habitats.  Through educational presentations relating their uplifting stories of challenge and triumph, Jo brings audiences not only to a new awareness and appreciation for these magnificent birds, but also inspires them to realize their own passions and become who they were meant to be.

The experience of actually living with non-releasable permanently injured birds of prey 24/7 has provided Jo with unique insight into their world. Their individual personalities, behaviors, needs, idiosyncrasies, and body language are remarkably like our own. They have much to teach us. In learning about them, we learn much about ourselves.

Each raptor is provided with its own housing built specifically for birds of prey and customized to meet the particular needs of each bird. Our raptor housing facility has connected indoor and outdoor areas so each bird can come indoors or go outdoors at will. Jo is committed to providing each resident bird with the highest quality care in a safe, private, and peaceful mountain setting that is the next best thing to being free. Please note that the housing facility is not open to the public.

Flying Higher is a fully insured company and is permitted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

What We Do

  • Instill an awareness, appreciation, and respect for our birds of prey and the essential role they play in our daily lives

  • Motivate by demonstrating how passion, perseverance, commitment, and gratefulness are the foundation on which personal fulfillment is built

  • Inspire audiences to realize their potential in life and “soar on wings as eagles.” -Isaiah 40:31

What We Teach

  • What role raptors play in our physical, mental, and emotional well-being

  • Raptor personalities and behaviors – what they mean

  • Raptor survival skills – what they do, why and how they do it

  • The art of communication – raptors show us how

Reviews

"The professionalism and quality of the Flying Higher Program has far exceeded any expectations that we have had.  Jo’s care and respect for the raptors she works with is a lesson within itself.”
